One of the areas the Geological Survey of Brazil (GSB-CPRM) is involved in is the physical characterization of regions of eco/geotourist interest. with the objective to provide basic geological, geo/environmental and geohistorical information, as well as data on the mineral assets present to. the communities in question, professionals and the public in general, as well as enhancing the regions’ tourism potential with the proposal of new visitation tours. Some of the projects already concluded are described below.
CPRM has set up the Brazilian Geo/Ecotourism Program, which includes descriptions of monuments, geological features and parks, outcrops, waterfalls, caves, fossil sites, mining assets (deactivated mines), thermal springs, landscapes, trails, and other ecotourism information.
Apart from gathering information and providing knowledge about geo/ecotourism in Brazil, this Program aims to stimulate the preservation of natural resources and create jobs in ecological tourism, an industry that is still under-exploited.
Partnership is always diserable with organizations from the private and public sectors, especially those involved in tourism, including the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Environment. These partnerships could make scientific contributions, help the environment preservation and assist with the funding of the projects by optimizing the financial and human resources involved in achieving similar ends.
