Mineral Resources

This is an area which provides supplementary information for geological surveys. The area manages a database of the country’s minerals and carries out geological and metallogenetic research in regions with potential to be mineral-bearing in order to encourage private sector interest investments in mineral exploration. The Geological Survey also joins forces with the Ministry of Defense to carry out studies on the Brazilian continental shelf. It further provides assistance for the formulation of public policies and is currently focusing on nonmetal minerals, particularly agricultural inputs and construction materials.

The CPRM Geological Survey of Brazil mineral resource programs activities cover economic geology, prospecting and mineral economics. Their main purpose is to generate geological information to help the definition of the economic potential of mineral occurrences, of deposits of mineral districts and provinces in Brazil, while promoting the knowledge about the genesis origins of already known deposits.
