Factors affecting Mercury Exposures among Women of Reproductive Age Group (16-60 years) in the Three Barangays of Puerto Princesa City
Ma. Teresa B. Mendoza
The Department of Health, UP-National Poisons Control and
Information Service and other concerned agencies have been issuing health
advisories and warnings with regards to the dangers and hazards of
mercury. But unsafe process with mercury mining is still very evident
among exposed populace. Thus, it is uncertain whether these advisories
and warnings have produced significant effects on the factors affecting
mercury exposure among women of reproductive age group. Factors on
pregnancy outcome or placental barriers and fertility could also be
responsible in the continuous exposure to mercury that leads to poisoning.
