GEP-04 Hydrocarbon resource assessment methodology in a complex architectural context

 

The study on reserves parameters determination method for volcanic reservoir -an example in Huangshatuo area of Liaohe Oilfield

The evaluation of reserves parameters for volcanic reservoir has been a challenge for long time due to the severe heterogeneity in this kind of reservoir. A reserves parameters determination method for volcanic reservoir by using core analysis, logging, and testing/production data is discussed in this paper.
The procedures of the method proposed by this paper are as following: 1. To determine the matrix minerals in volcanic rocks with thin sections, oxides composition, etc.
2. Logging items are optimized according to the different logging responses from different matrix minerals, which are used to establish the identifying chart board for different volcanic rocks.
3. Identification standard for volcanic reservoir is established with testing and initial production profile by conventional digital logging, acoustic/electric imager, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
4. The matrix porosity model is established with core data, the relatively reliable fracture porosity is computed with acoustic/electric imager.
5. Oil-water contact (OWC) is determined with testing and initial production profiles in the volcanic rock reservoir. Reservoir initial oil saturation is calculated with mercury penetration data. Volcanic eruption stage division is defined by drilling and logging data, oil-bearing area is delineated based on the result of division. Reserves parameters of volcanic reservoir in Huangshatuo area in Liaohe Oilfield were determined by the method mentioned above. The accuracy of reserves calculation in this area got significant increase and better application of this method was achieved.
