In the framework of the Spanish National Radon Plan, during the last years several surveys have been carried out in the granitic area of Galicia (Spain). In them, determination of variables like external gamma dose rate, radioactivity in soils, indoor radon and radon in soil concentrations have been measured. From the results found and taking into account the geological formation, a first classification in low, medium and high potential radon areas was decided.
In this paper the above decision is discussed and a complete study of the relationship between the different variables measured from a local to a general scale is shown. The results support the interest to define clearly the objective of the radon prone area classification in order to considerer the appropriate variables to be measured.
