The project "Earth Class: Earth Science on education and in every day life of society", developed by PET Geologia from Federal University of Paraná, sustained by the Ministry of Education of Brazil, was born with the proposal of making and applying didactic material related to Earth Science, in Brazilian schools. Since there is no specific discipline on the basic teaching cycle regarding Earth Science, the related content is taught in Geography classes. Along with the necessity of teaching about the environment and sustainable development to youngsters, the project envisioned to fill the blanks left by the basic education system and supply the teachers with subsides to increase their knowledge. The material is also intended to be used as soon as graduation begins. During the year of 2007, in an early stage of the project, models, brochures, booklets, and audiovisual material, were made based upon a scientific resource. The themes were chosen by analyzing the divisions of Earth Science that are most present in peoples' everyday life. All of the products have an easy approach to language and expose the scientific content in a simplified way. The techniques used in the making of the products are elementary, aiming a free reproduction of the material. The booklets and the other written forms urged for a wide distribution of information and free spreading. On a second and present phase, commenced in 2008, the materials are being tested in public schools in order to cope with application issues. In a short future, the results may be used as a support for the production of other projects with related matter.
