The topography of river valleys was shaped in phases at decay of the North Poland glaciation and in the Holocene. These valleys functioned by turns as: subglacial and river valleys. The changeability of deeper structures of Zechstein - Mesozoic complex, mostly running transversely to the Odra and Warta rivers, shows similarity in general valleys topography. The upland escarpments are from 40 to 100 m high. The valleys topography is very clearly marked in the landscape. At the confluence of the Warta and Odra river valleys south of Kostrzyn, a sub-salt structure with oil and gas occurs. The channel of the modern Odra River, as well as that of the old Odra (Alte Oder), unfolds itself respectively in the proximity of the structures of Padelzig, Gorzyca, and Gensuchumar. The upland peninsula of Reitwein is oriented with reference to the Podelzig structure. In the proximity of the Gorzyca structure, a glaciotectonically disturbed plateau occurs. Increased thickness of organic deposits is present on the outside of the abovementioned structures. Above these structures, sandy formations occur. The identified sub-salt traps with oil and gas in the vicinity of Kostrzyn and Gorzyca are expressed in the topography as rises of the morainic plateau surface; river terraces as well as the density and distribution of river network.
