Data on 146 reef, 110 salinity and 104 black shale formations occurrence in the Northern Eurasia territory are generalized in the maps. For each formation, boundaries of modern occurrence, age, material and structural composition, mineral resources, as well as litho-mineragenic columns are listed. All maps are compiled on a unified geographic and structural-tectonic base; this allows an analysis of formations and their correlation based on age sections and tracing the evolution of reef formation, halogenesis and black shale sedimentation processes in time. Maps are accompanied by text descriptions supplemented by detailed structural and litho-facies profiles and schemes. Map analysis allowed:
- Determination of the pattern of spatial and age localization of reef, halogen and black shale formations within the main geostructural elements in the territory of Russia: East European and Siberian Platforms, West Siberian Plate, Urals-Mongolian and Pacific folded belts;
- Determination of paleogeographic and paleogeodynamic environments of formations development;
- Determination of common regularities and regional peculiarities of composition, structure, as well as types and extent of productivity.
Oil and gas fields, manganese, polymetallic, bauxite, phosphorite, fluorite deposits are associated with reef formations in the territory of Russia.
Oils and gas fields, oil shale, uranium, nonferrous metal, phosphorite, manganese deposits are associated with black shale formations of the platforms; and in the shields and folded areas, deposits of gold, platinum group metals, uranium and polymetals.
Halogen formations, besides rock salt, gypsum and anhydrides, enclose large deposits of potash and magnesium salts and admixture elements: Br, Rb, etc., native sulfur, cupriferous sandstones and shales.
Many of the listed minerals are controlled by parageneses of the formations under consideration. This is clearly shown in sections of the majority of sedimentary basins of the world.
