The Alagoinhas batholith shows a unique and rare feature. An arch built in granitic rock. This rare feature developed due to differential erosion in rocks with distinct mineralogical composition (granites and diorites), and contributes to the geomorphologic beauty of the region. The granitic arch has approximately 100 m in length and around 50 m of height in its maximum curvature. Besides the amazing and unique landscape the arch also has cave paintings made by primitive inhabitants of the region representing hunting, animals and human figures. The region has an excellent potential for tourism considering its proximity to cities with handcraft and landscape (sedimentary basin) already well known. It is possible the development of integrated tourism in this region, involving religious, and handcraft ?based, geologic-based and adventure tourism. The geologic information concerning the formation of the arch, will give new insights to a better comprehension of the observed structures and, also will reinforce the need to protect what nature has taken several thousand years to build.
