Haftkel Oil Field located at 75 Km east of Ahwaz city (South West of Iran). Asmari Formation is a major reservoir in Zagros basin and considerable amounts of hydrocarbons trapped in the Asmari Formation in Haftkel oil field. Microfacies, depositional environments, sequence stratigraphy and biostratigraphy of Asmari Formation studied based on data which collected from thin sections and geophysical well logs. Accordingly 20 microfacies recognized within the formation which deposited in five depositional environments, including supratidal, itertidal, lagoon, bar/barrier complex and open marine. These microfacies including Depositional environments of the Asmari Formation interpreted a homocline carbonate ramp with gentle slope evolved from inner ramp (Burdigalian) to middle and finally outer ramp in Aquitanian. Three biozone recognized in this formation from thin sections provided of borehole # 28 and 4 biozone in borehole # 55. Consequently age of Asmari Formation determined early Miocene (Aquitanian- Burdigalian). Three main sequences (3rd order), three maximum flooding surfaces (MFS), four sequence boundaries (SB) and two regressive surfaces (RS) recognized in the Asmari Formation based on sequence stratigraphic interpretation of geophysical logs coupled with microfacies and petrography. Sequences boundaries are type two.
